Day 18: The Grand Canyon

It's very cold here. The South rim of the Grand Canyon is located 2100 meters above sea level. I was wearing a polar fleece and a jacket. However, I was wearing a short (not a good idea at all... I was too optimistic), and it was OK during the day. But at sunset, the wind was sooooooo chilly I nearly froze. My legs were completely cold, let's not mention my fingers... I resisted during a full hour just to take some pictures of the sunset.

The general view was absolutely fantastic. There is an excellent shuttle network in the park, so you just leave you car in one of the parking lots and hop on a shuttle. The shutle takes you to several "view points" (I stopped at about 10 of them). You can also walk along the rim between these view points. It's up to you, depending on how much time you have to visit the park. Since I'm only here for one day, I combined some walks (a few miles) with some shuttle rides. Therefore, I've been able to see the entire park in one day. You can also hike down the canyon. But it's quite long and steep, and I didn't have time to do that today.
The Colorado river is visible from certain view points.

I saw a very fat squirrel (people clearly overfed him...), a californian condor (endangered species), a few lizards and elks.

Hereafter some pictures of the Grand Canyon, enjoy the view!!!
